    Default center speaker damage..

Hi there, my 8 year old center speaker has two 5" drivers, in one of them the foam ring that goes around the driver ( the one that is attached to the frame of the speaket itself ) has a small hole of about half an inch , some internal parts can be seen from outside, it's really small but it kind of bothers me, i dont hear anything wrong with the speaker but it seems the foam is kind of stiff due to age and use I guess..
Can this problem affect the sound of the speaker to the point of kill it ??

    Thanks

Yeah, that's pretty common for a surround to rot over time, but 8 years is pretty soon. You can either re-cone them, or try to find out the exact specs of the driver and replace the driver. The speaker company can probably tell you what part you need and send it to you for the cost of the part - installing a driver should be a simple matter with a few screws.

    For re-coning, try Parts Express:

I think they'll give you a quote online before you send it in.

    Good luck!
