Default Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-ray Player: $203 with 6 Free Movies

Amazon has brought back its most popular Blu-ray player offer - save $100 with the purchase of a player and four movies on Blu-ray Disc. But this time they've included the popular Panasonic BD35 player in the list of eligible players as well as models from Sony, Pioneer, Denon, Pioneer and Samsung.

    Default Oscillating Prices at Amazon

What's with Amazon's pricing of electronics. A couple of weeks ago when I checked the Panasonic DMP-BD35K it was about $227. When I check a few days later it was $239. When I decided to place an order last night it had fallen to $226. Then I noticed the deal with the 4 movies and the $100 discount. My account on Amazon wouldn't let me cancel the previous order since it was in the process of "shipping" so I tried creating a new order. This time the priice was $239! Since I couldn't cancel the previous order I sent an email to Amazon asking how to get the free movie deal. I received a reply from them this morning saying that they had canceled the 35K from last night's order and that I should reorder for the movie promotion. When I did that this morning, the price had fallen back to $226. My final price was $200.46 for the 35K and movies. If I had purchased cheaper movies (one was $21) it would have been less than $200.
Anyway, why is Amazon's price more volatile than the stock market? If I waited another day or two or three could I have got everything for $150, or maybe it would have gone up to $250?
BTW, I saw at Costco this morning that they have it for $199 after an $80 instant manufacture's rebate. Of course they are no free movies, and tax has to be added to that price.

Default Amazon's pricing: a moving target?

Tell me about it! Amazon's pricing is all over the map from day to day, and sometimes from minute to minute! They do not expose the reason for this (or even acknowledge it) on their official pricing page, but I assume it must be set by some algorithm that they have in place to maximize conversion rates from visitor to sale, while also maintaining a healthy profit. I've been looking at the BD35 pricing lately myself, having just bought one for my parents around the $230 mark, but with the movies and $100 discount it came in closer to $205. But the range I have seen is only about a $13 difference ($226 to $239) so I think your $150-$250 example is a little exaggerated. I did see the Samsung BD-P1500 vary in price from $201.36 to $219.95 during that extremely short-lived 8 Discs, $200 off sale, but even at that price, they couldn't keep them in stock for more than a few minutes.

In the past, Amazon did experiment with different pricing for different users, but I believe this practice was discontinued due to public outcry.

Hadn't heard about the CostCo deal of $199.95 after the rebate. Pretty good for a B&M store but still not as good as the Amazon BD35 deal which gets it to you for about the same price but WITH four movies (and the movie selection isn't half bad), and with free Super Saver shipping and no sales tax in most states.

Anyway, congrats on squeezing a few extra bucks off the price! I hope you ordered via the links on our site so we made a few bucks on it too!

    Default It's up, it's down

Just checked Amazon again. Now the BD35 is $244.31! It would be interesting to have several people all check the price at the same time. Would they all see the same price or is the price really personal history related?

I was being a little facetious with the $150 - $250 example, but it looks like $250 may not be far off.

Sorry, Chris, I didn't order through BPBS. I didn't know about that feature. I just joined yesterday. How do I go about doing that?

They've gotten in trouble for that before so I think they've cleaned up their act.

It would have to go as high as $280 or so to get up to a net of $250 with the movies and the $100 off. It's certainly possible with the volume of players they're selling that the price will creep up - the BD35 is in the top 10 most popular electronics items on Amazon and is #1 in both the DVD category and Blu-ray category at the moment.

On the forum and on the main BPBS site, most of our articles have "Where to Buy" links embedded in them. These include a unique affiliate code which then credits BPBS with a referral for the sale if people click on our links and then buy something during that shopping session. Amazon is more generous than some with a 4% referral fee on referred sales of eclectronics. You can also click on any of the links on our "Shop With Us" page and we'll get the referral as well (though I think that page is getting a little outdated as we no longer have affiliate relationships with some of those vendors due to the new NY State tax laws).

We also posted the Blu-ray Player deal on our site here:

    $203 for DMP-BD35 and 4 Movies

And we regularly post deals here:

HDTV, Home Theater and Blu-ray Deals

Anyway, no biggie. There's always next time. Let us know on the forum if you have any set-up questions on the player.

Default BD35 player price up, but $100 off code still works

    Hey, Milt,

I think Amazon was spying on this thread. The BD35 today is up to $279.44 (before the promo discount)!! Also, they removed the $100 off offer page from the site even though the promotional code is still working.

We've updated our promo page with instructions on how you can still get the $100 off deal on the BD35, BD55, Samsung BD-P2500 and several other players. I don't know if Amazon will continue to honor it all the way up until 12/31 when the original deal was supposed to expire, but it's definitely working as of about an hour ago when I last checked.

For those looking for this deal, go here for detailed instructions:

    Default Going up!

The Panasonic DMP-BD35K is up to $289.77 this morning. Hardly any savings off MSRP.

I just noticed that the BD35 is now being sold by 6ave rather than Amazon. Perhaps Amazon is out of stock. Is that why the price jumps around so much? Because it's coming from different vendors? I haven't been paying attention to who the actual supplier has been.

The price does vary when the vendor changes but the $226 to $279 prices were all on Amazon with Amazon as the seller. I think it all comes back to available stock and supply and demand. When Amazon did that $100 off sale, they sold *A LOT* of BD35s. I know that just from seeing the referral sales from BPBS in the affiliate reports. It was outselling all other players by a significant margin. I think the player was actually underpriced for the demand.

When Amazon's stock dwindled, they raised the price, and eventually cancelled the BLUWA100 promotion early, because they could not support the demand with their supply.

If they get another big batch, maybe they'll lower the price and do another promo?? I dunno... But I'm glad I got mine (and one for my parents for xmas) when they were cheap!
