While I missed out on this sale at Sears, I hopefully did better with TigerDirect's deal for $199 (free shipping, too!) that showed up late this afternoon. Sorry, according to their website, they are all sold out now.
Thank goodness I missed out on the Sony BDP-S350 last week at KMart and Sears. I thought I had done all the right research, and I didn't. For $20 more, I think I got a better blu-ray player because the BD35 decodes all of the new audio codecs (my receiver is 7.1, but doesn't have all the new codecs).
Yes, better player, particularly if you have HDMI audio decoding, but no direct support for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master audio decoding in the receiver. The Panny can put these out as PCM with no loss in quality.
I bought a Sony S350 and and a Panasonic BD35. The Sony is going to one of our writers so he'll have a source that bitstreams Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD for a receiver review he's working on. The BD35 is for my parents for Christmas (shhhh, don't tell my parents!). Oh, and I got a BD55 for myself as well because I'm completely nuts.
