No Digital Audio connector on DVD Surround

I am beyond flustered now!I have a Sanyo LCD TV,Explorer 4250HDC Set Top, and a RCA RTD258 DVD w/Surround Sound.The problem i have is that the DVD player does not have a Digital Audio connector on it.If it is possible, i would like to be able to watch TV in surround sound.Is there a way to do this without having the Digital Audio connector on the DVD player?Also, the Set top has the Fiber Optic style connector for the Digital Audio and the TV has a RCA style connector.See why I am lost!!Anybody with ANY direction would be GREATLY appreciated!

As you say, your surround sound system has no digital input so you will not be able to get discrete 5.1 channel surround sound from your cable box. However, you can hook up your cable box using the standard stereo (left/right) analog audio outputs on your cable box to the aux 1 or aux 2 input on your surround sound system, then select Dolby Pro Logic II when watching/listening to TV shows.

This isn't quite as good as discrete 5.1-channel surround sound but it will give you surround sound (with all speakers active) when the program you're watching is encoded with Dolby Pro Logic surround information.
