    Default Denon's DMP-1611, DBP-2011, DBP-2012 Availability and Details

Denon's highly anticipated universal Blu-ray players may have been delayed, but they're already taking orders for them, with the DBP-1611UD expected to ship in December and the DBP-2011UDCI (which is being renamed the DBP-2012UDCI, according to our source) is now expected to begin shipping in January, 2011.

Default Additional details on the upcoming 2010/2011 Denon Blu-ray Players

FYI, some additional details on the players from Denon:

Denon Link will not be available on either of these players.

Analog sunset rule: as to compliance with the analog output sunset rule for AACS devices, it is likely that the new player coming out in January will have to play by the new rules so HD will be delivered over HDMI only. Denon does not yet have final confirmation of that, but this is what's expected. The DBP-1611 will be exempt from this ruling as long as it is released before January 1, 2011 although the Image Constraint Token could effectively accomplish the same thing on *any* Blu-ray player causing the players to down-res their outputs over analog. This issue is not specific to Denon players.

The DBP-1611UD will most likely still need a firmware upgrade for 3D playback after it ships, while the other player will most likely ship with 3D on-board in January. This is subject to change but this is the current plan and thinking.

From my notes from the press briefing, the loading speed on the new players was quoted as "less than 20 seconds from load to play." No specifications as to whether that was a DVD, vanilla Blu-ray or BD-Java Blu-ray, but in any case it *has* to be faster than the DBP-2010 which was as slow as molasses. See our DBP-2010 review for details on that player.

And the last tidbit? The DBP-2011 is DEAD. Long live the DBP-2012! Yup, because the new model is being introduced in January of the new year, the model number changes to DBP-2012UDCI with the new two digits to indicate the year its replacement is expected to be introduced. No changes to other specs or features, according to Denon. The original article has been updated with a note to that effect.

    Hope that helps.

    Default Denon BluRay component out

Greetings. I found your post via google and have a problem.

We are trying to integrate Denon DBP2012UDCIKKE3 Bluray machines into an existing conference room using a Folsom Scan converter. we had the component output, but have discovered that the Denon will only output 480I. This looks like garbage on the projector and I am curious if they considered commercial applications before installing HDCP on BluRays???

Is there a converter that will take HDMI and convert it to Component?

    Thanks
    Bill

    Hi, Bill,

Several of the 2011 Blu-ray players don't include a component video output at all (HDMI and composite only) so I'm not surprised that the DBP2012 is capped at 480i over component. I don't know of any Blu-ray players that ever supported full 1080p output over component. They were normally capped at 1080i, and for DVD upconversion they maxed out at 480p (over component video).

There are converter boxes that will convert HDMI to component and/or VGA. VGA might be better for you if you are connecting this to a projector, but I don't know if your Folsom box works with VGA inputs. I have not personally used any of these, but I know the ViewHD box gets decent reviews on Amazon so it may do exactly what you need. It's around $100. Here's a link:

Hope that helps and if you do try it, let us know how it works out for you (this will be helpful for the next guy who needs to do the same thing).

    Regards,
