Unhappy Samsung P3600 - Problems with Disc Load

My Samsung P3600 Blu-ray player refuses to load discs. I am running the most current firmware, and I was connected to my wireless router (until I reset the player). Symptoms are:

    1. When I load a disc (i.e., open the tray and close it with a disc present), the player stays in Close mode forever - no response to any commands (local or remote) other than Power Off and Open.
    2. When I Power Up using the Play button, the unit stays in Play mode forever (disc loads, and previews play, up to the start menu - however, no commands work (local or remote) other than Power Off and Open.
    3. During either of these situations, the FF button will not initiate a Reset, no matter how long I hold it down.
    4. The only temporary fix I have found is to unplug the unit for 10+ seconds, then it will properly load a disc and play it.
    5. Once I have gone thru the unplug sequence, if I leave the tray empty, I can get the unit to reset, but it still starts all over after I have powered off the unit.

I have tried placing the previous firmware on a USB drive, but the unit (after a reset, which has to be preceded with the unplug sequence) will not recognize the update.

Any suggestions? Anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Sorry, never heard of that issue and we no longer have our review sample to test. Did it occur after a firmware upgrade or seemingly randomly? The FF button for 10 seconds is supposed to do a hard reset so I'm not sure what else to suggest. IS it under warranty and can you contact Samsung to see what they suggest?

You might also try the Samsung BD-P3600 owners thread on avsforum to see if anyone else is familiar with this issue:

Good luck and let us know if you make any progress with it.

Thanks for your response. As I recall, it did not occur immediately after a firmware upgrade. It is not under warranty. If I don't find a solution, I will be replacing it, and it won't be with a Samsung unit. I will contact the Samsung owners thread and see if anyone there has any suggestions.

Red face Had the SAME Issue

Yep, this happened to us at the beginning of Sept and I took it to Best Buy (where it was bought - with BB's warrenty) for repair. They had to replace the hard drive. We sometimes heard this little popping when first transmitting video to the tv, but thought nothing of it. Then the volume would all of a sudden go out, and we had to reset both tv and dvd player. Then I put in a bluray disc with auto playback and it died. Kept saying "CLOSE" then I'd hit buttons and take FOREVER to open the player or turn it off. BB said they replaced the PCB (was told it's the hard drive) which is most often due to electric issues.

A LOT of people on Amazon mentioned they also had this same problem (though I don't think most of them had a warrenty). Good luck!
