Default Firmware upgrade 1.23 for Panasonic DMP-BD65/BD85 and update 2.4 for BD60/BD80

    Hey, gang,

FYI, there is a firmware upgrade available today for the Panasonic DMP-BD65 and DMP-BD85:

Firmware upgrades for 2010 Panasonic Blu-ray players

For the BD65 and BD85, it says it's a VIERA Cast update, so I'm wondering whether they're adding Pandora?

Haven't checked it out yet but plan to later tonight. If anyone else gets a chance, then check it out and let us know if Pandora appears on the VIERA Cast screen.

BTW, there's an upgrade for the BD60, BD70V and BD80 as well (firmware version 2.4), which makes me think it might be Pandora:

    BD80 firmware upgrade
    BD60/BD70V firmware upgrade

Anyone care to be first to check it out and report back?

Did you get 2.4? It's possible that it is still delivering 2.3 through the player and 2.4 might only be available for download via the above links. They don't always make the updates available on the Web site and on the player's internet connection at the same time.

Any chance you'd like to post a photo of the new VIERACast screen? The stock ticker in the center bottom has always been there, if that's what you're talking about.

OK, thanks for checking. I'll confirm later. I moved the player to a projector for some final video testing.

Yeah, still no Pandora. I did the 1.23 upgrade on the BD85. Only thing I have noticed is that the Netflix connection seems to be more solid - I was able to get HD signal quality really reliably, even over the built-in WiFi, which I wasn't getting before. I will check in with the Panasonic folks to see what the improvements are in 1.23.

for some reason I always got a new good connection with netflix. its the bdlive that I am having problems with. seems to disconnect everytime I want to try it. I had to do the connection test then it would work but then only on that title.. when I switched over to another title I would have to do the connection test again. I am using the wired connection and also have an SD card.

Strange. Was this happening before the upgrade or only after? I've noticed that if you try to access BD-Live or networking features too soon after turning on the player you'll get an error, but if you wait a couple of minutes, it's fine. But you're saying that every time you go into BD-Live you get a connection error?

it was before and after the update. I talked with someone at panasonic and they said it was the WPA encryption issue. I have to set that. i get it with either the wired or wireless connection. its every time.

    OK, guys,

Per Panasonic, it turns out that the firmware 1.23 update for the D45/BD65/BD85 and the 2.4 update for the BD60/BD80 *does* enable Pandora on VIERA Cast, but there is a back-end server change on the VIERA Cast servers for Blu-ray that is also required, which has not happened yet. Those who did the upgrade should expect Pandora to appear on their VIERA Cast screens in the near future. If it isn't there by the end of June, I will eat my hat (I will be wearing a hat made of pepperoni pizza, just in case).
