Brand New Panasonic DMP -BD605 will not recognize any discs!

Hi all. I just purchased the above player and no matter what disc I put in it says it can't read.Or that its not a compatible disc.I upgraded the firmware to 2.2 but still nothing. Any ideas what it maybe? Or did I just get a bad one?...Really frustrated.

Sounds like you got a lemon. But it's from Costco so bring it back and swap it for one that works. Or, better yet, get the DMP-BD65 instead (probably not at Costco yet, where it will be called a "DMP-BD655" and will come with a free HDMI cable). The newer model will be able to do Netflix streaming where the BD60 (and BD605) cannot.

I bought it on Amazon for $112...Guess I'll be sending it back.But this does have a free HDMI cable with it...I use XBOX 360 for streaming Netflix anyways...Thanks for the quick response. This is a great site.

Well I hope you don't have problems with the return. Amazon doesn't sell the 605 directly, only the BD60. The BD605 for sale on Amazon is only from "marketplace" sellers. I was under the impression that the BD605 was a Costco exclusive but I guess other channels must have it too. The 605 and 60 are actually identical players, just a different model number for different channels (and the 605 comes with the HDMI cable whereas the 60 does not).

But if I were you, I'd return that defective unit and order the BD65 instead. The BD65 a little more expensive but it will get Netflix streaming where the BD60 will not. Stock on the BD65 is pretty limited as it's a brand new product. In fact, Amazon is not stocking it yet, but it's listed from some of their marketplace sellers. It will most likely come down in price as soon as Amazon has it in stock. The BD65 is also quite a bit faster to boot and load discs that the BD60.
