Unhappy Just got a Samsung BD-P3600 and need some help please

got the samsung bd-p3600 yesterday but I'm running into trouble with sound.

I had no problem setting up the wireless network and so on. But whenever I play a blu-ray movie or a movie from netflix and stop the movie, the device makes a loud noise - when it should be silent. Noise does not go away until I turn off/on again the player. When it's silent again. However, when I do the same (stop the movie) I get the same problem. The player worked fine for the first 3-4 hours and then started with this problem.

I'm afraid that I may be setting up audio the wrong way. I have the player connected to my TV (Sony 1080p, one year old) via HDMI cable. I have a bose cinemate series II connected to the TV. I can't figure out what might be wrong. I've tried every possibility in the audio set up but it doesn't clear the noise.

Called samsung customer service but they're useless. Rep made me reset the player three times (which BTW erases the set up information including the wireless network set up) just to tell me that the unit needed to be inspected by samsung. She was clueless and reading from a script and had no idea about my question. I guess samsung doesn't have a level 2 customer service.

I've read reviews where people have had many different problems with this model, but so far it plays movies/netflix well. My only problem is the loud noise it makes whenever I stop the movie I'm watching.

    Please help!

This doesn't sound like a set-up issue as that would affect sound all the time, not just when you stop the player. Unfortunately I think the Samsung tech is right and you need to replace the player. If you bought it on Amazon they have a great return policy - it will not cost you anything in shippng to return a defective player and get a replacement. Just view your order online and you should see a link to return the item.

If you bought it locally, just bring it back and get a replacement.

Thank you very much for your reply! yesterday evening I went ahead and exchange it at Best Buy (where I bought it). Installed it without a problem and then went ahead and checked if I got the same problem and I did. It makes a loud noise whenever a movie is stopped (either blu-ray disc or Netflix).

Unlike the previous unit, which worked flawlessly for a few hours before starting with the problem. This one did it from the beginning. As it's not possible that the audio set up is wrong, what else could it be? do you know if Samsung has a level 2 technical support?

If I can't find out what's wrong, I will have to return it and find me something else. But I must say that when playing movies sound/picture are excellent.

    Thanks again!

Well having the exact same problem with two samples actually points more toward something else in the system being at fault. A few questions:
    • Are these sounds coming out of the unit itself or out of the speakers?
    • Are you connecting the player directly to a TV or to a receiver or audio sytem? If to an audio system, what make and model or receiver or HTiB is this?
    • Are you using HDMI for audio or something else (fiberoptic or coax digital output or analog audio outputs)?

If you can let us know how you're connecting this and to what, we might have some more suggestions about how to debug and possibly work around the problem.

    Thanks much!

The noise comes out of the speakers and TV. If I turn off the speakers, the noise still comes out of the TV. That's why I initially thought about audio set up, but tried all combinations and didn't work.

I followed the manual and connected the samsung directly to the TV via an HDMI cable. So there's one single HDMI cable running from the samsung to the TV's HDMI port. I have a Sony LCD 40 inches 1080p, about a year old. The bose speakers are connected directly to the TV. This is one of the bose systems that include a couple of speakers a subwoofer and a tiny thing (don't know how to call it) that's connected to the TV via red/white cable. This is the link to the speakers I have.

Bose CineMate GS Series II Home Theater Speaker System - Bose 2.1-channel Home Theater Speaker Systems

Sound/picture quality are awesome and when playing a movie the sound is extremelly good. It's only when I press stop that the sound starts and doesn't go away until I turn off/on the samsung.

    Many thanks for your help!

Sorry for the delay. The only thing I can think of is perhaps a ground loop. Is it a humming kind of sound or a buzz? How would you describe the character of the sound?

You should try plugging the player's fiberoptic digital output directly into the fiberoptic input on the Bose system and leaving the TV speakers off, just to see if having the TV in the loop for the audio may be contributing to the issue. This would also probably get you slightly better sound than running the Blu-ray player's audio through the TV as it would skip an unnecessary layer of digital/analog conversion of the audio signal.

Pick up an optical digital cable at Home Depot or WalMart or Best Buy and see if it helps.

Thanks so much! the sound it makes is similar to a buzz. I did forget to mention that my bose system is a couple of years old so it only has one connection (red/white). Would an optical cable work with this? I'll go to BB today and try it.

Also, I connect the speakers to the TV as I also have my HD satellite box conencted to the TV (HDMI) and this way I can use it for both.

Will try that and will let you know. Thanks again

Look closely at the back of the control unit. The product link you posted does have an optical input, at least according to the specs on the Bose web site. But don't buy an optical cable if you don't see an optical digital input on the back of the Bose control unit. If it is an older version with no optical input then you'll have to find a different solution.

Also, I connect the speakers to the TV as I also have my HD satellite box conencted to the TV (HDMI) and this way I can use it for both.

If it is a ground loop, then using 2 to 3 prong "cheater plugs" on your components' power plugs might also get around the problem. Do any of your components have 3-prong cords on them, like maybe the TV? Anyway, that's a cheap enough possible solution so pick up one of those too, plug in your TV or anything with 3-prong cords into it for testing and see what happens.

Getting a decent power conditioner and plugging everything in the system into that one strip may also help as it could be a ground differential between different power lines in your home that causes the loop. Anyway, let us know if any of this helps and if not then try more popular forums like avsforum as well.
