Ok folks, here we go. Now that the disappointing "X-Files: I Want to Believe" has hit theaters, "Files" fan can finally debate which movie was better, this one or 1998's "The X-Files".
It's an interesting comparison because both movies represent two different aspects of the show. The first "Files" movie represented all those increasingly confusing "mythology" episodes of the series and, as such, alienated (pun intended) all but the most ardent admirers of the show. This newer movie is a throwback to those "freak of the week" standalone episodes. However, it's not a very good example; nowhere near the "Tombs" or "Home" caliber of the show in its prime.
So while "Believe" may be more accessible to "Files" newbies, it's not likely to cause any converts (or increase DVD sales). The 1998 movie, on the other hand, at least had the virtue of being a good mythology episode. (Yes, I know. Bees? Really? But still...)
Chalk this one up to the first movie.
