    Default If it Ain't Broke...

Chris, on another thread you caused the old gray matter to stir under the gray topping, by something you said!
Many years ago (Early 70's) I was working the Times Square motion picture theater district for Altec Service Corp. I made the statement "If it Ain't Broke, Don't Fix it", in response to something a projectionist said to me while I was on a routine service call at his theater.
He said, " Hey, that's good. Why don't you have some little signs made up and give them to the projectionists in all the theaters you visit to tack up on the wall." (Projectionists in the NYC area had a thing for tinkering and causing many service calls!).
I had several hundred little yellow signs printed up and passed them out to projectionists and theater managers. I'd bet you would still find one or two of them in a booth in NYC.
There was even one in the booth at Radio City Music Hall.

    So..."IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT"!!!

You're the coolest, Don! Now of course, the projectors are automated so when there is a problem, you have to go tell the popcorn guy (who is also the projectionist). Seriously! My wife and I were at a late night opening day showing of one of the Harry Potter films and the film melted. When there was an utter lack of movement from the booth, I stepped outside and literally had to go get the guy at the popcorn booth to fix it. They restarted it about 1/2 hour later (after my wife had fallen asleep and was out for the evening). And they wonder why theater attendance is down!

Don't get me started on these "autofocus" projectors. When I went to see Prince Caspian on Ultrascreen out in the Twin Cities with my ex-girl-something-or-the-other last May, it was so out of focus, it looked like a giant DVD. And we wonder why people complain that Blu-rays look "too grainy" - it's because they haven't ever seen real film grain; not even in the theatre!

    '"In a strange game
I saw myself as you knew me
    When the change came,
    And you had a
    Chance to see through me
Though the other side is just the same
You can tell my dream is real
Because I love you, can you see me now."
