Hi Chris, The Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV is the one I'm looking at!![]()
It looks like a fine TV. The only thing lacking is a native 24p Cinema Mode, which is only going to be included in the higher end V10 and Z1 lines (not yet available). This is the feature that gives Blu-ray and DVD playback a more cinematic feel by presenting the 24p source at a direct multiple of 24 FPS, thereby eliminating the motion judder that can occur when you have to map 24 frames per second unevenly into a 60 FPS display.
If you're not noticing or bothered by judder on your current set, then this may not be worth waiting (or paying extra) for. But it is a nice feature to have if you like that movie theater look and feel.

Chris, What are your thoughts on this one?
Panasonic TH-50PZ850U 50-inch Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV
It's an excellent TV - the first of their products with VIERA Cast. The *only* drawback is that its Cinematic Playback Mode is 48 Hz, which some people find little distracting due to the flicker. Personally, my eyes adjust to it within a minute or two, and it doesn't bother me. But the V10 and Z1 will do 24p at 96 Hz which will eliminate flicker. Also the V10 and Z1 use the new neoPDP panel which is much more energy efficient than the 2008 models.
BTW, you can post links to the products on Amazon if you like. The forum automatically embeds our affiliate code into the URL.

OK, OK,!!! back to the drawing board, uh! research board!!!
Thanks Chris!![]()

Hey Chris, My head is spinning now....?
What 50 inch Panasonic model do I want?
Will the TC-P50G10 do what I want it to do?
If not please send me the link for the correct model number.
Thanks
Don
If you want to hold out for the 2009 model that supports Cinematic Playback (at 96 Hz), then that's the TC-P50V10 (MAP: $2299.95) and I believe it is going to begin shipping in May. I can't send ytou a link as it doesn't look like anyone has it listed for sale yet.
The larger screen sizes in the V10 series (54-inch, 58-inch, 65-inch) are expected to begin shipping this Summer.
Again, the G10 is a fine TV, but it does not support native 24p playback without 2:3 pull-down. The PZ850 is also an excellent TV but with Cinematic Playback at 48 Hz you might be annoyed by the flicker.
By the way, as with the Blu-ray players, you might want to give the V10 TVs a few weeks on the market before you order one because I expect the prices to be right at or near MAP when they first are made available but they might be discounted once they're been out for a few weeks.
