    Default tv calibration

Can someone tell me if it is worth getting a tv calibrated ? I own the panasonic th46pz800u plasma tv and watch moslty blue ray movies on my dmp35k panasonic blue ray player. The setting I watch the movies on is THX on the tv. I have been told that this is as close as you can get for studio picture quality, if that is the case, would I really need to have the tv calibrated or is this for tvs that don't have THX as a picture setting ? Also how often do you need to get your tv calibrated ?

I would say most people who invest in TV calibration are happy with the results, particularly if they go with an ISF-certified calibration specialist. They will set your TV up for more than one set of lighting conditions, e.g., "day" and "night" viewing.

The THX mode on the Z800 series is excellent but because of differences between samples of the TV and individual home lighting conditions, calibration is still generally worth doing. As to whether it's worth the cost, only you can say that. Check out the ISF web site to find a calibration specialist in your area and see how much they would charge for your specific set.

If I'm not mistaken, Best Buy now offers ISF calibration by ISF certified technicians for ~$200, but I think you may actually have to purchase the display from them to get that deal.

EDIT: The ISF site does actually have Best Buy listed as one of the ISF-trained dealers.
