    Default Possible HDTV Damage

Hello just wondering what will be the long term effect of have my 185 pound center channel speaker on top of my set. The set is a Pioneer Elite Pro 530HD. The set has a very strong cabinet and no joints have pulled apart. Also the guns do not go out of alignment
except for insane levels in db's in the 120+ levels with concerts. Thanks for the great site

I wouldn't even want to speculate on possible damage from placement of such a massive center channel speaker so close to a CRT-based RPTV. Not just stress to the cabinet but potential magnetic interference to the CRTs themselves. I guess if it's high enough (far enough away), then you might be OK, and if not, well then it can hasten along your upgrade to something a little less bulky. Those were definitely nice sets in their day, but the picture quality on it wouldn't really hold up to a good plasma from 2010.

But hey, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it, and if you're not having problems then enjoy it while it lasts.
