Default Please Help With HDTV Display(?) Problem

Hi, first off, let me start by saying that I am very new to HDTV's, and all of this electronic stuff, so please bare with me. Well I received an 65" Mitsubishi HDTV for christmas, and at first I didn't know why my tv showed only in 480i, even on hd channels. I plugged some cords from my tv into my hd cable box(had no idea what I was doing), and i found I could then put my tv on input 2, which allowed me to watch tv in 1080i. but when in input 2, no matter what resolution i use, I see what I believe to be scan lines. I use comcast cable, and I have the hd cable box. How can I stop the scan lines from showing? Also the color is a bit distorted, kinda like if you were to watch regular tv on channel 4 instead of channel 3. When in my regular input, (input 1) I see the tv clear, and its on channel 3, but its in 480i. When in input 2, again, no matter the resolution, the color is distorted, and I see lines in the tv.

Also I noticed that when in input 2 I cannot change the channel on the tv, so I cannot tell if it's on channel 3 or not.

This is happening on whatever channel I watch, from nba, to nfl, to cartoon network. Please help me fix this.

Get an HDMI cable. Plug it in between the cable box and the HDTV and select the HDMI input and I'm sure things will be looking up.

And will that definately fix the problem? Because I'm picking up an HDMI cord for my xbox 360 tommorow, so if so, then I'll get 2.

Well frankly, nothing in life is certain and it's a little hard to follow your post of what you've already tried. With HDMI, things will be simpler as there is one single cable to handle the audio and video and it's impossible to connect it incorrectly. If you still have problems using an HDMI cable, then you will need to go into your cable box set-up screens to make sure you have selected 1080i and 720p output for the HD channels.

HDMI cables can be bought online for about $10 each. In most cases these are functionally identical to more expensive cables so don't be duped into thinking you need $100 cables just to get HD signals. I'd suggest these ones on Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B001TH8UUA

They're under $6.50 for a 3-meter length. Other lengths are available. Not in stock currently (too popular) but they will ship them when back in stock. If you go to a local store, you might not be able to find HDMI cables this inexpensive.

Thanks for your help. The HDMI cable did indeed work, though I went to walmart and bought a $30 one before I saw your post about the $6.50 one haha.
