Default Pioneer VSX-1021 stays on stereo!! PLEASE HELP!!

I just bought a Pioneer VSX-1021 and no matter what configuration I make, it will not switch to digital audio. I have a Sony BSP-350 set to bitstream output with Monster Cable 700 HDMI to the VSX-1021. I've even selected the sound format from the blu-rays and still get PCM or stereo. Can anyone help me please?

PCM is digital audio. You will get 2-channel PCM from the HDMI output if "Audio Output Priority" (in the Sony player's Audio setup menu) is set to anything other than HDMI. So first make sure you have Audio Output Priority on the BDP-S350 set to HDMI, then make sure "Audio (HDMI)" is set to "Auto." And make sure "BD Audio" is set to "Direct" so it will pass the original lossless streams without mixing in menu sound effects (and reverting back to PCM).

If these are the exact settings you are using, then you might need to do a hard reset on the player. But first confirm that you've tried these settings on the BDP-S350. Again:

    • Audio Output Priority: HDMI
    • Audio (HDMI): Auto
    • BD Audio: Direct

    Good luck,
